WORLD PREMIERE

The Speckled People

By Hugo Hamilton

Hugo Hamilton’s best-selling memoir, The Speckled People, has been hailed as an ‘instant classic’. The Gate Theatre is delighted to present this World Premiere of the author’s adaptation of this extraordinary work as part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival.

The Speckled People
tells a profoundly moving story of a young boy trapped in a language war. Set in 1950s Ireland, this is a gripping, poignant, and often a very funny family drama.

As a young boy, Hugo Hamilton struggles with what it means to be speckled, “half and half… Irish on top and German below.”

‘A wonderful, subtle, problematic and humane book’
The Irish Times

Monday – Saturday at 7.30pm.
Saturday Matinees at 2.30pm on 8th & 15th October and 5th November.
