bash

bash is a trio of plays by the playwright and award-winning film director Neil LaBute. bash: Latter Day Plays enjoyed a highly successful run in London at the Almeida last year following New York and Los Angeles. LaBute is currently working in London on his new film Posession, his previous films include In the Company of Men and Your Friends and Neighbors.

In the first of the bash plays Medea Redux, a young woman remembers how she was seduced at 14 by her schoolteacher and the terrible revenge she took years later. Iphigenia in Orem is the story of a chauvinist salesman who kills his child in order to save his job. The final play A Gaggle of Saints re-enacts a young couple’s night out at a party in New York, which leads to a murder in Central Park. All the plays are vivid explorations of the darkest impulses that lie beneath the surface of surburban society.

LaBute’s plays take us on an uncompromising journey through the bleak existences behind the glossy image of the American dream.
