On 9 January 2009, Brian Friel, one of Ireland's greatest living playwrights, celebrated his 80th birthday. In recognition of this significant anniversary, the Gate produced a unique season of his works at the Sydney Festival 2009 and will tour the season to this year’s Edinburgh International Festival before presenting it to Irish audiences at the Gate Theatre in September.
