Lady Windermere's Fan

by Oscar Wilde

Lady Windermere’s Fan was the first of Oscar Wilde’s plays to be produced and on its glittering debut in 1892 it proved an instant success on the London stage.

Now set in 1947, post-war London. The young but respectable Lady Windermere is having a select party to celebrate her coming of age. Her husband presents her with an elegant fan to mark the occasion…and an uncompromising ultimatum to invite a woman of dubious reputation to her party. Allegations, intrigue and confusion are to follow in this classic plot where nothing, and nobody, is quite as it seems.

Alan Stanford, Ireland's leading exponent of the works of Oscar Wilde, having appeared in and directed all of his major plays, returns to the Gate to direct Lady Windermere’s Fan.

Lady Windermere is played by Katie Kirby, a recent graduate from the Gaiety School of Acting, who is making her Gate debut. Mark O’Halloran plays Lord Windermere with Ingrid Craigie as Mrs Erlynne and Conor Mullen as Lord Darlington. Elizabeth Moynihan takes the part of Lady Plymdale, Caitríona Ní Mhurchú the Duchess of Berwick and, the cast also includes, Katy Davis, Michael James Ford, Jill Harding, Dairíne Ni Dhonnchú, Simon O’Gorman, David O’Meara, Lochlann Ó Meárain, Alan Smyth, India Whisker, Lucinda Worlock, Declan McGauran and Alan Connelly.
