Following a sell out success in Dublin, the Gate transferred its production of Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land, starring David Bradley, Nick Dunning, Michael Gambon and David Walliams, to the Duke of York’s Theatre in London. It opened on 7 October and has since received unlimited praise from audiences and critics alike.  Described by the Telegraph as “Superb” the production will run on until 3 January.

From the pen of one of the greatest living playwrights, No Man’s Land tells of two aging writers who, after meeting on Hampstead Heath, return home for a late-night session of witty banter, sinister power games, and the worship of alcohol.

No Man’s Land received its world premiere in 1975 in a National Theatre production at the Old Vic, with Peter Hall directing Michael Feast, John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson and Terence Rigby. It was presented at the Gate Theatre in 1997 to great acclaim, as part of the Theatre’s second Pinter Festival. To date the Gate has presented four major festivals of his work. The first two festivals were at the Gate in 1994 and 1997 and featured the involvement of the author as both actor and director. In 2000, as a 70th birthday celebration, Michael Colgan curated a festival at Lincoln Center, New York, featuring productions by the Gate, the Almeida and the Royal Court. In 2005, the Theatre marked Pinter’s 75th birthday by producing Old Times and Betrayal along with many readings and presentations of his other plays, prose and poetry, and in 2006, the Gate presented a staged reading of Celebration in the West End and also in Turin. The Gate is preparing for another major retrospective of Pinter’s work in Dublin to take place in 2010, to honour the great Playwright’s 80th birthday.
