‘A classic...one of the major texts of our time’ New York Post
‘The greatest playwright of the 20th century’ Vaclav Havel

Following the outstanding success of All My Sons last year, the Gate Theatre presents Arthur Miller's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, Death of a Salesman, starring American film and stage actor, Harris Yulin as Willy Loman. Yulin first emerged in the Brian De Palma classic Scarface, with Al Pacino, in 1983 as crooked cop Mel Bernstein. Since then, he has appeared in many big-budget films including Final Analysis with Richard Gere, Clear and Present Danger with Harrison Ford, Ghostbusters II, Rush Hour II and Training Day with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. He has also starred in a number of major television series including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, 24, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Entourage, and was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of crime boss, Jerome Belasco, in Frasier.

With a career that spanned over 50 years, Arthur Miller‘s probing dramas which include All My Sons, The Crucible, A View from the Bridge and The Price, transformed American Theatre and proved to be both the conscience and redemption of the times.  Death of a Salesman, one of the greatest achievements in 20th Century drama, burst onto the international scene in 1949 and won not only the Pulitzer Prize, but also the Drama Critics’ Circle and Tony Awards, launching Miller as one of the leading dramatists of our time. Veteran salesman, Willy Loman, has always gotten along ‘riding on a smile and a shoeshine’, but recently seems to have lost his golden touch. Haunted by missed opportunities and a troubled past, his life begins to unravel as he starts to lose faith in the two things he believes in: his family and his dreams. Under the guidance of renowned American director, David Esbjornson (Angels in America), the Gate has brought together a stellar cast for this production including Séainín Brennan, Stephen Brennan, Peter Daly, Deirdre Donnelly, Barbara Griffin, John Kavanagh, Garrett Lombard, Barry McGovern, Elizabeth Moynihan, Rory Nolan, Marie Ruane and Stephen Swift. The set is designed by Michael Pavelka, with costumes by Elizabeth Hope Clancy, lighting by Mick Hughes and music and sound by Denis Clohessy.
