David Clare
David Clare is in the final year of his PHD at University College Dublin. His thesis explores the phenomenon of ‘The Stage Englishman in Irish Literature’, with a particular emphasis on the work of Brian Friel. He has given conference papers in Ireland and the United States on, among others, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Charlotte Brooke, Maria Edgeworth, Samuel Beckett, Marie Jones, and Martin McDonagh. His journal article on C.S. Lewis’s Irish background appeared in the February 2010 edition of the
Irish Studies Review, and a peer-reviewed chapter on Bernard Shaw appears in the book
The European Avant Garde: Text and Image, which is forthcoming from Cambridge Scholars Publishing.
