Gate Theatre Production of 'WATT' by SAMUEL BECKETT at the 2012 Edinburgh International Festival
Texts from the novel selected by Barry McGovern.
The Gate Theatre is delighted to announce that ‘Watt’ by Samuel Beckett will be playing at the Edinburgh International Festival this August. After its World Premiere as part of the Beckett Pinter Mamet Festival in Dublin in 2010, ‘Watt’ was invited to the prestigious Under the Radar Festival in New York in January 2011. With the support of Culture Ireland, the production went on to tour to four cities across the United States in October and November as part of the Imagine Ireland season of Irish arts in America in 2011, to great critical acclaim.
‘full of comic surprises’
San Francisco Chronicle
‘Seeing the work of Samuel Beckett performed by Dublin’s Gate Theatre company is akin to seeing Gilbert & Sullivan performed by D’Oyly Cart, hearing Wagner at the Bayreuth Festival, or seeing Shakespeare performed at the Globe Theatre. It’s a chance to experience the work of art in its natural habitat, performed by the people who care about it the most.’
Detroit Theater Examiner
‘I got an almost delirious joy from hearing, and seeing, an hour-long distillation of Beckett's novel... explosively funny.’
