The Gate aims to be as accessible as possible. As well as our accessible facilities, we provide assisted performances throughout the year.

Lift Access

Please be aware that due to the historic nature of the theatre, lift access is located at the rear of the building. For information regarding wheelchair access to the lift, please see the next section.

On the day of a performance, the lift may be accessed from the Rotunda Hospital car park and from Parnell Square East via a pedestrian gate 45 minutes before the performance begins. If availing of the lift, we ask that you arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the start time.

Our front of house team will be delighted to collect your tickets from our box office for you.

To ensure that The Gate team can optimally facilitate your visit, please inform our box office of your intention to avail of the lift on +353 1 874 4045 or boxoffice@gate-theatre.ie.

Wheelchair Access

We currently have two wheelchair spaces in the auditorium. The auditorium is accessible from the lift at the rear of The Gate building. There is a fully accessible bathroom located on the auditorium level.

Please be aware that due to the historic nature of our theatre, we sincerely regret the bar is not accessible to wheelchair. However, a member of our front of house team can arrange pre-show or interval drinks for your enjoyment in the coffee dock or in our Beckett Foyer on request.

Guide and Medical Service Dogs

The Gate Theatre is pleased to welcome guide and medical service dogs. If you intend to bring a guide or medical service dog to a performance, we would ask you to contact us in advance of making your booking.

Maximum Wheelchair Dimensions for Lift Access

While our lift is a standard size and accommodates most wheelchair models, please be aware that some larger motorised wheelchairs may not be compatible with our lift. To ensure your visit to the Gate runs as smoothly as possible, we ask that you check that your wheelchair fits within the below maximum dimensions:

  • Max Width 75cm & Depth 130cm

Should this raise any concerns, or for further assistance with this, please contact our box office team on +353 1 874 4045 or boxoffice@gate-theatre.ie.
