ONCE BEFORE I GO by Phillip McMahon

Any guests with specific access needs are kindly requested to contact the Box Office team in advance of booking at boxoffice@gate-theatre.ie. Please note that the cabaret tables are not suitable for wheelchair users.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, seats and cabaret tables of 4 are sold on a STRICTLY UNRESERVED basis. To facilitate social distancing, guests will be allocated a table or a pod of seats as per their booking. For patrons booking 2 seats at cabaret tables for 4 (October 25th onwards), ticketholders should note that cabaret tables will still contain four seats and you may be seated in proximity to patrons outside your household or pod.

Entry to the Gate and the auditorium will be conditional on the health guidelines at the time of the performance, and not at the time of ticket purchase. Any updated conditions of entry will be notified to guests in advance of the performance.

Please note that all attendees for performances from September 24th to October 30th will be required to provide relevant proof, in the form of an EU Digital Covid Certificate for example, that all those aged 18 or over are fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 within the previous 6 months. Under 18s who are accompanied by a parent/guardian currently do not require proof of immunity. Should any member of a larger group arrive without their verification, they will be refused entry to the indoor facilities. Please note that PCR or Antigen tests will not be accepted for entry.

For the health and safety of our staff and other patrons, we kindly request that guests wear a face mask at all times during their visit to the Gate.

Once Before I Go is an intensely moving world premiere from Phillip McMahon, co-creator of the iconic sensation RIOT!

Told against the backdrop of Dublin’s burgeoning gay rights movement of the 1980s and 1990s and the contemporary LGBTQ+ community of today, the play charts the close friendship of Lynn, Daithí, and the luminous Bernard, and sits on the exhilarating edge between comedy, tragedy and melodrama.

Exploring the fragile yet resilient bonds of Irish queer lives across four decades in Dublin, London and Paris, Once Before I Go steps between the early days of the AIDS crisis and today’s LGBTQ+ community, living in an era of marriage equality, gender self-determination, and untransmittable HIV.

At once political, joyous and heartbreaking, Once Before I Go honours the fabulous people we lost along the way, and celebrates those who fight on.
