Supporting the Gate

Since it was founded in 1928 the Gate Theatre has flourished creatively to become one of the powerhouses of theatre both nationally and internationally.

The Gate is housed in an 18th Century building and over the years the fabric of the building has been refurbished, developed and expanded. Most recently, a new wing was built which encompasses the Gate Studio. These important works would never have been achieved without the generous support of many individuals and companies. We would like to thank all our past funders and our current ones for their generous contributions. People have supported us since 1928.

In the archives of the Gate Theatre we came across one of the first fundraising events in its history – an announcement that said:
The Gate Theatre Dance will be held in the Plaza Ball Room on 27th, November 1928. Special Spot Dance Prizes. Mr. Hilton Edwards will sing. Peter Lowe’s band. Tickets 5/-. Evening Dress optional.

We wish to express our deep gratitude to the following
