Hamlet opened in St. Ann’s Warehouse on February 1, 2020. It was directed by Yaël Farber, and was the first international tour from the Gate under the leadership of Artistic Director Selina Cartmell, in association with Kate Pakenham productions.

Ruth was joined by an ensemble of leading Irish actors, including Fiona Bell, Gavin Drea, Aoife Duffin, Nick Dunning, Peter Gaynor, Steve Hartland, Mark Huberman, Will Irvine, Barry McKiernan, Shane O’Reilly, Owen Roe and Gerard Walsh.

The production was a critical and commercial success, performing to sold-out crowds and receiving a rave review in the New York Times.

“Having our acclaimed production travel to New York and to have St Ann’s Warehouse present Hamlet as part of their 40th Anniversary was an exciting and important development for the Gate Theatre,” said Cartmell, “Stories like Hamlet have been helping us make sense of the world for generations. We wish all nominees every success and we are so thrilled for Ruth at this time.”
