Emile Zola was one of the giants of French nineteenth century literature and, from the publication of Thérèse Raquin, his work was both championed and vilified across Europe for its gritty realism and sexual honesty.
This mesmerising psychological thriller has at its centre the extraordinary figure of Thérèse, one of the first complex female characters of the modern age, who is driven by her animal passion and obsessive desire into a life of adultery, murder and violent retribution.
Directed by Michael Caven and designed by Joe Vanek, this production promises to be a stylish and highly theatrical journey into the nightmare world of Zola’s macabre tragedy.
